if that apple doesn't fall from the tree...
...do you climb it and get it yourself with the risk of falling on the ground, face shattered, bones broken?
or do you just keep on waiting?
hoping, wishing and praying
for a strong wind to blow. for the earth to shake. for all the elements to conspire to make that apple fall on your waiting hands?
maybe i'll choose the first. never mind the risk of injury. waiting can get tiring.

today is a good friend's birthday. i want to thank him for letting me read shel silverstein's "the giving tree," where this image was taken. i hope life is treating him well.

sometimes, waiting's not that bad...it's waiting too long that can be detrimental...

good to know you're back to blogging...missed your writing terribly!
my impatient side gets the best of me, usually. i remember boogie's post on a similar subject:
"Life was always a matter of waiting for the perfect moment to act...we wait...wait..and wait..
and my reply was:
"maybe. but sometimes, the perfect moment is hard to spot, so i just seize ANY convenient moment. i don't like waiting too long."
it's not always wise to do though. and i do acknowledge there are some things where you have no choice but to rely on time...and faith... that it will come...that it will happen.
and thank you for our cbtl coffee talk and for all the encouragement. hopefully, i'll get to update often.
HI VAL! I love this new blog! I really missed your writing! :) Keep on challenging the blank page! ;)
thank you cams. and i love your adventures there! keep on updating!
i'm inclined to think that you can get somebody else to get the apple, in exchange, of course, for part of the fruit. granted it's the apple you really want, and not the experience that comes with acquiring it. ;)
the more important question though is what to do with the apple once you get it. you can either think that:
a) effort makes for a sweeter end
or
b) waiting/hoping/wishing/praying builds character.
heh.
those are very good insights, illyria, thanks so much. you're right. you're surrounded by people who could help you get the apple. you don't have to do it by yourself.
and sometimes, yes, our eyes are always on the prize. when the experience (the waiting period) is just as important. "builds character," as you said.
apple...
cored and peeled, put in a deep pan with muscovado, vanilla bark and a little bit of water, covered and allowed to simmer...
turned every few minutes or so, until the apple turns golden brown, caramelized....
remove from pan and allow to cool, put on a bowl, add a dollop of thick cream or ice cream on top and garnish with fresh strawberries...
strange where your post brings me...
maidenflight---why do you torture me so? you had me salivating. you better make me that sinfully, nummy treat when i see you.
hmmm...*sinful...apple...tree...* throw in some nakedness and a slithering reptile...what do we have?
see how you continue to inspire me? :P
"hmmm...*sinful...apple...tree...* throw in some nakedness and a slithering reptile...what do we have?"
...a NAKED APPLE TREE??
ok, ok. i'm kidding. of COURSE it comes with a slithering TURTLE!
inspiration's a wonderful thing, my sweet! and i'm glad the world will continue to read YOUR magic! ;)
